Barry T. Schneider is an established metals expert with more than 30 years of industry experience. He currently serves as Senior Vice President — Flat Roll Steel Group for Steel Dynamics, Inc., managing sales and marketing, capital investments and safety, as well as SDI’s corporate responsibility for government relations. Over the last three decades, he has established himself as an expert in the steel industry, managing the startup of more than seven facilities and bringing measurable results to each department he has overseen.
Barry began his career with SDI in 1995. He was instrumental in building the company’s first steel mill and has since gained extensive experience at multiple levels of steel mill management. Barry served in various supervisor and management roles for the company until 2007, when he was promoted to Vice President and General Manager of the Engineered Bar Products Division in Pittsboro, IN. Seven years later, he began his first corporate position in 2014 as Vice President—Bar Products, where his responsibilities extended to their Virginia facility.
Barry was named Senior Vice President — Flat Roll Steel Group in 2016 and is responsible for SDI’s largest business unit, overseeing the company’s flat-rolled divisions across multiple states.
Currently, he serves on the boards of the Association of Iron & Steel Technology and United Steel Supply.
Barry holds a Master of Science in Engineering Management and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, as well as an Executive Certificate from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
He has two children and currently lives with his wife of twenty-nine years, Verna, in Roanoke, IN.
